What is a A340-300 worth?
05 August 2009
Airfinance Journal asked appraisers to assess the value of a 1999-vintage A340-300 powered by CFM56-5C4/P engines
In
1988 International Lease Finance Corporation became the launch customer for the
A340-300, with the first aircraft delivering to Air France in February1993.The
last aircraft of this type was delivered to an undisclosed customer in
2008.During its production cycle Airbus sold A340-300s to customers which
included SAS,Air Mauritius and Air Tahiti Nui.
An
A340-300 can carry about 295 passengers in a three-class configuration and fly
about 7,300 nautical
miles.
The model’s direct competitor today is the 777-200ER,which entered into service
in the 1990s and can carry a total of 305 passengers. The 777-200ER has outsold
the A340-300 almost two to one.
However,
appraisers believe it is only a matter of time until newer widebodies, such as
the 787 and the
A350XWB,
start to take market share away from the A340 family.
A340
values are holding up primarily because of the delays to newer widebody models.
